Paul, I’ve got a new job for you.

Alright, where am I going this time?

This time you are going up in the cascade canyon, some rare birds were sighted there near the waterfalls, you have two hours.

What the?

You didn’t have to shoot him.

I’m the one in charge here, you’ll do what I say.

What if somebody finds out.

Then you might be next.

Uhh.

Calm down, I have an inside track at the police station. We won’t get caught.

What in the.

The bushes. get him!

He’s dead now where’s that stupid camera.

Park ranger, he put this on him and lets fly.

I’m sorry mam, but there is no evidence of foul play.

Chief, my husband did not commit suicide. He was the best photography in the city.

The gun was found in his hand, and he was dead at the scene. Besides, the park ranger heard the gun shot and arrived to fast for anyone to escape.

I’ll put this with the other files.

I know he didn’t kill himself, this isn’t over yet.

Is this the office of Dixon Hill?

Sure is Hun, what can I do ya for?

I need to see Mr. Hill right away.

Well hold on. Alright, go on in Hun.

Man, where’s a filing clerk when you need one? Oh, I’m sorry I’m (uh) Dixon Hill

Mr. Hill, I need your help.

Well it’s not often PIs are given social visits, what can I help you with.

My husband didn’t kill himself. He loved me and his job too much to do that. His editor may have been a pain, but that would not drive him to eat a bullet. He knew the ??? but he didn’t care.

Whoa, slow down lady, you lost me in a cloud of smoke back there, now who is dead and how?

My husband ?? and I want you to find his murderer.

Are the police in on this?

They have all ready closed the books on the whole thing, and wrote it off as a suicide.

And you want me to prove them wrong? Huh?

You did it before Mr. Hill, there is now way that my husband did this, something had to have happened to him.

OK, I’ll take it.

Oh thank you, you don’t know how much this means to me.

I know you told the police everything, but please tell me again.

I told the police all I know, I don’t think they listened though, they seemed to intent on calling it a suicide.

Do you think someone else did it?

I just don’t know. All I know is that he died right here, and the police chief didn’t seem to care too much.

Hmm, thanks for your help, I’ll just look around.

Mr Hill, I appreciate what you are doing for this lady, but the evidence doesn’t lie. Besides, I don’t need to waste time on something so obvious. The gun was in his hand, and after analysis it was found to be the one that killed him.

But you don’t find it odd that he shot himself in the back of the head?

No, I don’t I’ve seen it before.

Are you sure he didn’t have a camera with him? I mean, he was a professional photographer.

No sir, we didn’t find a camera.

That’s odd how long was the scene investigated.

About five minutes, The police chief said it was a waste of time and he wasn’t going to investigate something so obvious.

Has Paul Gibbons had any problems with the police before.

He has had some run ins with the chief.

What about?

It had something to do with an article in one of his recent publications.

Where is this article?

Did you find anything yesterday.

You right mam, it’s too complex to be a suicide. I am going back to take a look at the police files.

Did you find his camera?

You mean there was one?

Yes, He was in the, he was in the canyon on assignment, he called me before he left.

I need to see the files on the Paul Gibbons murder.

I’m sorry Mr. Hill the seem to have disappeared?

What? How could the files just disappear? Who else has access to these files?

Just the chief and myself, but I have been out of my office most the day running errands, so any one could have come in.

Interesting

Chief, may I have a word with you?

What do you want Hill? Are you still on that Gibbons case? You are wasting your time?

All the files on the Gibbons case are missing.

And what does this have to do with me?

Well, you and the clerk are the only one who have access to those case files?

Are you saying that I took those files?

I’m not saying anything, I am just asking where you were the day that Paul Gibbons was murdered.

Get out of my office, you make me sick Hill.

I would start thinking about where you were, If I were you?

That PI is on to something?

Don’t worry. I have everything taken care of. The files are gone, all we need to do is find that camera and our troubles are over. It has to be here somewhere.

I could have sworn he dropped it over here?

Hurry, we need to get out of here.

Ahe he, I found it.

Quit your yellin’ and just get rid of the film.

Get you hands up.

What are you doing, you can’t…

Put your gun down.

Quick the other one ran off. I caught this one intending to dispose of evidence

I’ll call the police.

No, no. I can take care of it. Just help me get him into my car.

Looks like Hill was right, this wasn’t a suicide.

I don’t know about this.

Good afternoon, Dixon Hills office what can I do ya for?

Yes, I’d like to speak with Mr Hill.

Just one moment please

Hello Dixon Hill

Mr. Hill, this is the park ranger.

What is this all about Hill?

The Paul Gibbons case

That case is over with Hill, go find a cat burglar

If you’ll just let me speak.

Give me one good reason why I should even listen to you.

Because I know who killed Paul Gibbons

Oh really, enlighten me.

Paul Gibbons was on assignment in Cascade Canyon. While he was taking pictures, he took pictures of something he that shouldn’t have . The two men saw him and shot him in cold blood. Just at that point, the park ranger was coming into the area to investigate the gun shots that he heard. And that startled them into running off. But before they ran off, they wiped the weapon clean of prints and left it in Paul’s hand to make it look like a suicide. And unfortunate for them, they weren’t able to find his camera in their panic to escape. After you pathetic and exhausting five minute investigation of the case. You closed it and wrote it off as a suicide. Gibbons wife came to me and ask me to look into her husbands lobotomy. So then I took a trip of my own up to the crime scene. And spoke with the park ranger, after looking things over, I decided to study the case files. and see if anything in there could be of use. However when I went to see the files, they were not to be found.

Hill, what’s the point of all this?

Just let me finish. As I said the files could not be found by the clerk or any one else. I thought I was at a dead end on in investigation until I received a phone call from the park ranger. The ranger said that the filing clerk was up at the crime scene and that the clerk supposedly caught one of the men involved in Paul’s killing, he also said that a man fitting you exact description was able to escape the scene.

You’re not implicating me in this again Hill.

Will you just calm down and listen, if you weren’t so pig headed you’d let me finish. Then the clerk told the park ranger that he could take care of the whole situation

That’s ridiculous, the clerk isn’t even an officer.

My point exactly chief. I had the clerk investigated, and found the files that were missing in his apartment. I also found the murder was licensed to him.

Oh, uh dispatch.

This is the chief. Put out an APB on Jack Jeeps car, the filing clerk for the fifteenth precinct.

Not bad for a one man police for, eh chief.

Cut, that’s a rap people, you’re beautiful. Somebody get the set, you hit the lights.

Hey, Charlie, charlie wake up charlie.

Uh, Dispatch.

No it’s over charlie.

Oh

Thank you for tuning into this weeks adventure of Dixon Hill, until next time.
